History
In 1965 Dr. H.O. Lyne III brought his wife, Georgeanna home to Chester. Here they established three successful veterinary practices: Chesterfield Veterinary Clinic, Courthouse Rd Animal Hospital and Chester Animal Clinic. Although Dr. H.O. Lyne III passed away in 1988, his wife and youngest son, Taylor, now Dr. Taylor Lyne, have carried on his compassion and love for animals.
Dr. Taylor and K.C. Lyne their boys and HerculesDr. Taylor Lyne worked at the animal hospitals as a small child; a true family business. He attended Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine to pursue his lifelong dream of following in his father’s footsteps. During his last year of veterinary school, Dr. Taylor Lyne, had the opportunity to work in different veterinary practices, hospitals and universities throughout the country allowing him to gain invaluable experience as well as make long lasting friendships and mentors. One of his mentors was Dr. Eric Winchester from St. Augustine, Florida. Dr. Winchester had a very successful veterinary practice, Julington Creek Animal Hospital, as well as two sons and immediately took Taylor under his wing during his externship in 1993 giving him advice and suggestions about practicing veterinary medicine.
In 1994, Dr. Taylor Lyne came home to Chester, Virginia (with his new bride – K.C.) after graduating to carry on his father’s legacy and dream. In 2000, Dr. Lyne’s and Dr. Winchester’s paths crossed again. Dr. Winchester had just started a new venture, Julington Creek Animal Walk, with his still very successful veterinary practice. The Resort and Animal Hospital were separate businesses with the same objective, the well-being and care of pets in his community. Julington Creek Animal Walk is now one of the the leading pet resorts and parks in the country.
Dr. Lyne was very excited about the idea of a pet resort, park and veterinary hospital working together, hand-in-hand for the pets of Chesterfield County and the surrounding areas. He quickly realized that there was absolutely nothing like what he was envisioning in Virginia -- a genuine luxury pet resort and park. There were plenty of pet boarding kennels and daycare facilities in Virginia but nothing that offered an outside park environment completely dedicated to dogs and their families as well as luxury pet vacation and daycare accommodations and was owned and operated by a veterinarian.
In 2002, Dr. Lyne and Mrs. Georgeanna Lyne began the arduous process of planning and developing West Chester Pet Resort. They both agreed if they were going to build a pet resort their primary goal was to create a facility like none other in Virginia. They researched a number of other resorts and boarding facilities before deciding on all the services and activities that would best meet their community’s needs. Some of the amenities to be included would be indoor/outdoor suites made from tempered glass (NOT cages), an inground, heated, bone-shaped swimming pool, 5 fenced in acres to run and play, an agility course, professional pet styling and grooming, obedience training, gourmet pet treats, pet birthday parties by the pool, and the list goes on….
In 2007 they finally enjoyed the fruit of all of their work with the groundbreaking of West Chester Pet Resort. On March 1, 2008 West Chester Pet Resort opened. They are excited and look forward to the next phase of their endeavor.
We’re sure you’ll agree that West Chester Pet Resort should be your pet’s vacation (and daycare) destination!
